In the heart of Mont Kiara, a once vacant canvas of a living space has evolved into a sanctuary that whispers simplicity and echoes warmth. This transformation has woven a tale that transcends mere aesthetics. As the finishing touches found their place and the soul of the apartment awakened, our client uttered words that every interior designer yearns to hear when designing homes- “I feel like I’m on staycation every single day. I don’t feel like I want to go out that often anymore.”

In this Mont Kiara abode for a married couple with two cats, the design doesn't just reflect a visual appeal; it encapsulates an experience. The phrase "staycation every single day" encapsulates the spirit of this transformation – a testament to the life experience that unfolds when thoughtful design meets the aspirations of those who call it home. It's more than just a dwelling; it's a haven where the mundane is transformed into the extraordinary, and every day is an invitation to relish the beauty of one's own sanctuary.

Our client handed us a brief that echoed with a desire for a home wrapped in warmth, coziness, and the tranquil minimalism of Japandi vibes. Nestled within this vision was a challenge to transform the smallest bedroom into a dual-purpose area: a musical sanctuary and a productive workspace. A hidden door that appears to be a recessed book-display shelves on the outside added a touch of mystery and charm to the transformation.

Within the music-study room, where once bare white walls stood as a blank canvas, slated wood fluted panels are introduced. These panels are not mere adornments adding a touch of texture, chosen solely for their Japandi-style aesthetics; they bear a dual purpose that resonates beyond visual appeal. As fingers dance across guitar strings, the fluted panels quietly absorb the excess sound and noise, embracing our client in a cocoon of serenity.

The centerpiece of this room transformation is a two-tiered bespoke table surface, a versatile carpentry work that not only serves as a dedicated workspace but also cradles our client's cherished collection of vinyl records. With its edges gently curved, the floating table and low console table bestows a softness to the surroundings. It's not just about the lines and angles; it's a deliberate choice to soften the space. The curved edges lend a touch of fluidity, inviting a gentle flow that permeates the atmosphere. The long stretch of wall shelf, adorned with warm ambient light, casting a soothing glow to the overall ambiance. The warm line of light creates a visual break from the confines of a small space.

In our journey to breathe life into the common space of Living, Dining and Kitchen, light took center stage with a thoughtful touch. Picture stepping into an initially dim and dark space, where the only natural light filtered through the sliding glass doors. It was in this blank canvas that our creative spark ignited. Strategic planning became our guiding star as we unveiled a subtle yet impactful addition – a continuous line of concealed lighting tucked away in the ceiling pocket. This unassuming feature not only brightened the apartment but also worked its magic as a subtle visual guide. Imagine a gentle glow leading from the entrance towards the sliding doors, like a trail of light beckoning exploration.

This isn't just about dispelling darkness; it's about transforming the atmosphere. The hidden lighting enhances the quality of light within the apartment, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. But its role goes beyond illumination – it acts as a visual cue, a quiet nudge for anyone entering to pause and take in the captivating city skyline just beyond the glass sliding doors.

In the simplicity of this design intervention, the apartment becomes more than just a living space. It's a journey, a narrative of light and shadows that unfolds with each step. The strategic placement of light not only elevates the interior but invites a connection with the external beauty that awaits, turning a simple space into a canvas where every entrance is a moment of discovery. The addition of decorative light fixtures hanging low above the dining table as well as table light on loose sideboards further enhance the overall warm glow of this new home.
